Historical Background:
1st May 1945, Hitler was dead the day before. General Weindling, commander of the Berlin defense, had ordered to cease fire at 11 PM. But SS General Krukenberg ordered to the remnants of division Nordland to gather near the Weidendammenbrücke to made a breakthrough out of Berlin. The SS Kampfgruppe was composed of one Tiger II, some Sturmgeschutz, the Half-tracks of the Nordland recce company and all infantrymen available. Some groups of French SS of the division Charlemagne had joined too the Kampfgruppe who advanced and fought on Brennen Strasse. But once arrived to the crossroad with Lortzing Strasse, the Soviet fire intensified and blocked the armored column. The breakthrough was at that time impossible so the SS scattered in the morning.
