Historical Background:
On the 25th of August, the 43rd Wessex Division reached the Seine River at Vernon. The mission now was to cross the river to get a bridgehead to allowed the XXXth Army Corps of Gal Horrocks to cross as well and to continue the British advance to Belgium. A 19 PM, after an artillery fire ans smoke, the 5th Wiltshire and 4th Somerset cross the river on collapsible rafts. On the right , the first boats of the Wiltshire were stopped in the middle of the river by underwater trees and were under German machine-guns heavy fire. On the left, the Somerset reached the opposite bank but discovered that they were on an island with another stream to cross. In the center, infantrymen of the Worcester Regiment tried to cross the river by climbing on the broken road bridge, which was possible. After a long night of chaotic fightings, the Brits succeeded to make a solid bridgehead et to allow the arrivel of reinforcement and the building of a pontoon bridge.
