Historical Background:
In the end of May 1944, maquis Bir Hakeim, under the command of Major Barot, was in Causse méjean, an isolated area in Lozere, center of France. Betrayed to the German occupation troops, the maquis was quickly surrounded in La Parade and La Borie villages by Armenian troops of Ost Legion. On the 28th of May, Ost Legion attacked with the support fire of mortars. French partisans resisted well to the attack but gradually they were overwhelmed. Captain Brun with some survivors tried to break the surrounding : only two men succeeded to escape. 33 men were killed in action and 27 prisoners taken by the Ost Legion where shot the day after at Tourotte pass : the maquis Bir Hakeim was decimated. But this Resistance group revived and participated to the last combat of WW2 as part of the 1st French Army in Alsace and then in Austria.
