Historical Background: Marckolsheim - 15th of June 1940. 09h00 a m, German artillery of 7.armee of General Dollmann opened fire on the French positions on the other side on Rhine river. During ten minutes, all French bunkers were the target of thousands of shells, then assault boats full of troops crossed the Rhine. Combat engineers were mixed with assault infantry of 22.ID to attack French bunkers. On the French side, infantrymen of 104th Fortress Infantry Division fought with desperate energy knowing that nobody could reinforce them. Only some FT-17 WW1 old tanks, spread out in the rear villages, could gave a possible support. At Shoenau and Neuf-Brisach the enemy assault was repelled, but at Marckolsheim Germans succeeded. On the Sunday 16th of June, German Stosstrupps (assault troops) left the woods near the Rhine and attacked the French second line of defense in the villages, with the air support of dive-bombers "Stukas". On the 17th of June, operation " Kleiner Bär" was a success, the Maginot line on the Rhine was broken. The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history.
